At the Johnson Family Household, Jamie had been standing in the living room for three straight hours, yelling at Max.

“YOU ALWAYS RUIN EVERYTHING! GIVE ME BACK MY STUFF! STOP STEALING MY NOTEBOOKS! AND STOP LAUGHING AT MY TEXTS!”

Max, slouched on the couch, was already asleep.

“Are you SERIOUS right now?!” Jamie screamed, shaking him. “I’VE BEEN YELLING AT YOU FOR THREE HOURS AND YOU FELL ASLEEP?!”

Max, still half-asleep, muttered, “Mmm… Buffalo… stop singing ‘Let it Go’…”

Jamie threw her hands in the air. “This family is cursed.”

Across the room, Dad was crawling on the floor, his back hunched.

“Don’t mind me,” Dad groaned. “I’m just… SLITHERING. Like a snake. Because my back… is broken.”

Jamie blinked. “Why are you slithering?!”

“Because walking hurts!” Dad groaned, flopping onto the rug. “Call me Dad the Snake from now on.”

“More like Dad the Drama Queen,” Jamie muttered.

Meanwhile, Noah was zooming around the house in a wheelchair he definitely did not need.

“WHEEEEEEE!” Noah shouted.

“WATCH OUT!” Ethan yelled.

Too late. SMACK! Noah rammed straight into Ethan’s legs.

“OWWWWW! MY ANKLE!” Ethan wailed, hopping on one foot.

Noah shrugged. “You were in my lane.”

Back at the table, Jamie tried to calm down by focusing on her homework. “Okay. Done. Finally finished. Nobody can ruin this.”

Max suddenly sat up, wide awake. “Oh really?”

Before Jamie could react, Max snatched her homework, ran to the window, and hurled it outside.

“NOOOOOOO!” Jamie screamed.

She immediately grabbed a pillow and launched it at his head. WHUMP!

Max laughed. “Missed me!”

Jamie hurled another one. And another. She grabbed every pillow in sight, chucking them like grenades.

Finally, in her fury, she even grabbed Lilly’s teddy bear.

“NOT THE BEAR!” Lilly screamed from the corner.

WHOOSH!

The teddy flew through the air and smacked Max in the face.

“OWWW! WHY DOES EVERYTHING END UP HITTING ME?!” Max shouted.

Suddenly, from upstairs came Sophie’s muffled voice.

“Uh… guys? A little help? I think I’m… stuck.”

Jamie frowned. “Stuck where?”

“…Inside the bed,” Sophie groaned. “Don’t ask.”

Everyone froze.

Max muttered, “I don’t even wanna know anymore.”
