The rest of the Johnson family returned home completely exhausted.
The front door opened, and everyone dragged themselves inside like survivors of a very strange war.
Noah didn’t even make it two steps into the living room. He collapsed onto the couch and instantly fell asleep.
Jamie dropped her backpack on the floor and announced dramatically,
“I vow never to go shopping again. Ever.”
No one argued.
Lilly stood in the middle of the room, her face turning red as she realized something terrible.
“I didn’t get my teddy bear!” she wailed.
Ethan groaned and covered his ears.
“Please stop screaming.”
“I WANT MY TEDDY BEAR!”
Meanwhile, Uncle Sam proudly marched into the room holding six brand-new phones.
“Look what I bought,” he said proudly. “Backup phones.”
Mom stared at the pile.
Without saying a word, she grabbed them and dropped them straight into the trash.
Uncle Sam gasped. “Those were investments!”
In the corner, Uncle Jake patted his pockets nervously.
“I think I lost my wallet,” he said.
No one looked up.
No one reacted.
No one seemed particularly concerned.
Jake sighed. “Wow. Supportive family.”
Meanwhile…
Back at the grocery store, Dad and Max were still in line at the checkout counter.
They had been standing there for what felt like centuries.
They waited.
And waited.
And waited.
At one point, Dad actually fell asleep standing up.
Max rolled his eyes and stepped on Dad’s foot.
Dad yelped and jumped forward, crashing into the customer in front of him.
“Sorry!” Dad said quickly.
The customer glared at him.
Finally, it was their turn.
The cashier grabbed the giant teddy bear and scanned it.
Beep.
Then accidentally scanned it again.
Beep.
Max blinked.
“Wait—”
Too late.
Meanwhile, the gallon of milk sitting on the counter mysteriously disappeared as a random customer grabbed it and quietly walked away.
Neither Dad nor Max noticed.
The cashier smiled politely.
“That will be a very large amount of money.”
Dad sighed and handed over the payment.
A little later, Dad started the car, and they finally drove home.
Max leaned back in his seat, exhausted.
“I never want to see another grocery store again.”
Dad nodded. “Same.”
When they reached home, Lilly ran to the door.
Dad pulled the giant teddy bear out of the car and handed it to her.
Lilly squealed with happiness and hugged it tightly.
“BEST DAY EVER!” she shouted.
Max collapsed onto the couch.
Mom walked into the room and asked calmly,
“So… did you get the milk?”
Dad froze.
Slowly, he opened the shopping bags.
Onions.
Shampoo.
Random snacks.
The giant teddy bear.
But no milk.
Dad looked at Max.
Max looked at Dad.
Dad cleared his throat.
“Well… Max and I will just go get it again.”
Max groaned so loudly the entire house heard him.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOO.”
And ten minutes later, the car engine started again.
The End.
