The Talking Alarm Clock

A young girl with shoulder-length brown hair throws a red alarm clock out of her bedroom window as morning sunlight pours in, casting warm light across the wooden floor and cozy room filled with orange curtains and a neatly made bed.

Julia was not a morning person.

Her alarm clock rang every day at 8 a.m. sharp—but Julia always had a plan. Sometimes she smacked it. Sometimes she ignored it. And sometimes, she threw a pillow at it like a ninja in pajamas.

One Monday morning, the clock rang loud and proud. Julia groaned and launched a pillow in its direction.

She missed.

The pillow flew across the room and hit her older sister, Kate, who had just walked in.

“Really?” Kate groaned, rubbing her head. “Get up, sleepy lump!”

Kate ended up dragging Julia out of bed like a sack of potatoes.

The next day, it got even weirder.

At exactly 8:00 a.m., the alarm clock rang. And rang. And rang.

Julia groaned. “Ughhh, SHUT UP!”

To her shock, the alarm clock replied:
“No.”

Julia’s eyes popped open. “What?!”

“Hi,” the clock chirped, cheerfully.

Julia launched herself out of bed, screamed, and ran straight into the closet.

Later, she peeked out at the clock, which had now fallen silent. “It talked,” she whispered. “It talked.

The next morning, Julia woke up early. She sat up, eyes wide, staring at the alarm clock.

At 8:00 a.m., it rang.
“Good morning!” it said sweetly.

Julia didn’t hesitate. She picked it up and threw it out the window.

It hit the mailman.

From downstairs, they heard: “Ow!”

Kate ran into the room, doubled over with laughter. “I knew you’d do that!” she said between giggles. “My friend John programmed it to talk. Took him a week. Totally worth it.”

Julia didn’t find it funny.

The next day, their mom brought in a brand-new alarm clock. It looked plain and quiet.

But at 8:00 a.m., it rang.

And then it said:
“I don’t want to be here.”

Julia froze.
She stared at it. “John?”

The clock replied,
“Who’s John?”

Julia slowly backed away. “Okay… this is not funny anymore.”
