At the Johnson Family Household, Jamie sat at the dining table, hunched over her math homework, pencil gripped so tight it might snap.
“Ughhh… why are there so many X’s?!” she groaned. “If I wanted this many letters, I’d just write another essay about spaghetti bowls.”
She tried to concentrate, but Lilly’s endless wailing filled the air.
“WAAAAHHHH! I WANT CHOCOLATE!” Lilly shrieked, rolling on the floor like a dramatic movie star.
“Lilly, you ate the last bar this morning!” Jamie snapped.
“THAT DOESN’T COUNT!” Lilly screamed louder.
Jamie buried her head in her arms. “I can’t live like this.”
In the living room, Sophie and Ethan were in a full-blown shouting match.
“You stole my book!” Sophie accused.
“It was MY book!” Ethan barked back.
“No, it had glitter!”
“So what?! Boys can like glitter too!”
Jamie yelled from the table, “CAN YOU TWO ARGUE QUIETER?!”
“NO!” they both yelled in unison.
Upstairs, Max was fuming after discovering Noah bouncing on his bed.
“NOAH! GET OFF!”
CRACK!
The bed collapsed.
“…Oops,” Noah muttered.
“YOU BROKE MY BED!” Max roared, grabbing a ball and hurling it at Noah.
He missed completely.
The ball flew out the open window, soared across the yard, and smashed into the neighbor’s window.
CRASH!
“WHAT NOW?!” the neighbors screamed furiously.
Max winced. “Oops. Again.”
Downstairs, Dad shouted, “MAX, WHAT DID YOU BREAK NOW?!”
Noah called back, “Not the house this time… the neighbors!”
Back at the table, Jamie groaned, stabbing at her homework. “This math is impossible! Who even cares about the square root of 64?!”
Max sauntered by, smirking. “You know… I actually know math really well.”
Jamie squinted at him. “Really? Because I’ve seen your report cards, and they scream otherwise.”
Max gasped dramatically. “You did NOT just bring up the report cards!”
“I did,” Jamie said flatly.
Before Max could retaliate, Uncle Jake came marching in, belting out a song at the top of his lungs.
“🎵 I AM THE KING OF THIS FAMILY, AND I DON’T EVEN WEAR SHOES! 🎵”
Jamie slammed her pencil down. “Yep. I’m officially done.”
