The class was already buzzing when Samantha accidentally stepped on Jamie’s foot.
Normally, Jamie would’ve punched her straight in the arm. But this time, Jamie just forced a smile and said, “That’s okay, Samantha. I forgive you.”
Samantha blinked. “Wait… what?”
“I said, it’s fine.”
Samantha swayed, clutched her head dramatically, and fainted to the floor.
Jamie rolled her eyes. “Drama queen.”
Across the hall, Greg had somehow gotten himself stuck inside his locker.
“HELLO?! HELP! MY ARM IS IN HERE, MY LEG IS IN HERE, MY DIGNITY IS IN HERE!”
Nobody helped him.
Meanwhile, Max was sneaking around like a villain in a cartoon. He spotted Jamie’s precious notebook sticking out of her bag.
Max grinned. “Thank you, universe.”
He yanked it out, stuffed it in his bag, and strolled away, whistling.
Later in class, Jamie reached into her bag to grab her notebook for notes. Her hand came out empty.
Her face turned red. “WHERE IS IT?!” she screamed.
Everyone froze.
Samantha raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong, Jamie?”
Jamie growled, spun around, and punched Samantha in the arm.
“OWWWW!” Samantha cried, holding her arm.
Then Jamie immediately gasped. “Sorry!”
Samantha’s eyes widened. “Did you just… apologize?”
She fainted again.
Jamie groaned. “Ugh. She’s gonna spend the whole day on the floor.”
Fuming, she whipped out her phone and sent Max about twenty angry messages in a row:
GIVE ME BACK MY NOTEBOOK!
I KNOW IT’S YOU!
MAX I’M SERIOUS!
I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN.
Across the room, Andrew had taken a pair of scissors and, for reasons unknown, snipped off a chunk of the teacher’s hair.
“ANDREW!” the teacher shrieked. “THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS MONTH!”
Andrew shrugged. “It was uneven.”
Meanwhile, in Max’s grade, the worst subject ever was dragging on: Math.
Nobody was paying attention.
George was snoring loudly at his desk.
Emma was sleepwalking up and down the aisle, eyes closed, mumbling equations.
Abigail had rolled into class on a skateboard and was now zooming between the rows.
The only person actually focused was Ryan, happily scribbling away. “Ah, quadratic equations. Beautiful.”
Max’s phone buzzed. He opened it and saw Jamie’s explosion of angry texts.
Max burst out laughing so hard he nearly fell out of his chair.
“PFFT—she’s losing her mind already!”
George cracked one eye open and groaned. “Max, shut up. I’m trying to nap.”
But before Max could reply, Abigail lost control of her skateboard.
“LOOK OUT!” she screamed—
CRASH!
She slammed straight into Mr. Thompson, who was holding a trash bag. Both teacher and trash went flying into the garbage bin.
The entire class gasped.
“Mr. Thompson’s in the trash again!” someone yelled.
“Honestly,” Max said between laughs, “best math class ever.”
