The Diary of Doom

At the crack of dawn, Jamie sat at her desk, her diary open and her pen flying across the page.

Dear Diary, she wrote. Starting today, I, Jamie Johnson, will become the BEST student in class. I will do my homework on time, raise my hand politely, and not punch Samantha in the face even when she deserves it.

Jamie paused, glanced at Max’s bed, and sighed. He was still sprawled out like a starfish.

“Typical,” Jamie muttered. “Sleeping like a caveman while I’m out here planning greatness.”

Just as she finished writing, the bedroom door burst open.

“GOOD MORNING, KIDS!” Dad boomed, holding two giant buckets of water.

Jamie’s eyes widened. “Wait, Dad, don’t—”

WHOOSH!

Cold water splashed everywhere, soaking both beds.

“DAD!” Jamie shrieked, dripping wet. “I was already awake!”

Max, on the other hand, bolted upright, screaming. “AGHHH! BUFFALO’S ELSA! BUFFALO’S ELSA!”

Jamie blinked at him. “…What?”

Max shuddered. “I had a nightmare… Buffalo was dressed as Elsa from Frozen… singing Let it Go at me.”

Jamie facepalmed. “You need therapy.”

In the kitchen, Jamie, still grumbling, poured herself a bowl of cereal. She picked up her spoon when suddenly—

CRASH!

Noah came sprinting through the kitchen, tripped on his own shoelace, and fell face-first into her cereal bowl.

“MMMFFF! COLD MILK!” he yelled, flailing.

Jamie glared at him. “Noah. Get. Out. Of. My. Breakfast.”

When he didn’t move, Jamie simply hauled off and punched him in the arm.

“OWWWW!” Noah wailed, crawling out of the bowl. “Why does everyone in this family use violence as a solution?!”

Jamie muttered, “Because it works.”

Meanwhile, Max was still in front of the mirror, combing his hair for the millionth time.

“Perfect. Stylish. Handsome,” he told his reflection.

From downstairs, Dad’s voice boomed like a foghorn. “MAX! HURRY UP OR I’M COMING UP THERE!”

“IN A MINUTE!” Max yelled back.

As he spun around, he noticed something on Jamie’s bed. Her diary.

Max grinned wickedly. “Well, well, what do we have here?” He slammed the door shut, sat down, and started flipping through the pages.

“Dear Diary… I will be the best student in class.” Max snorted. “HA! Jamie trying to be the best student? This is gold.”

He kept reading, laughing louder. “She actually wrote a whole PLAN? Oh, Jamie… this is going to be fun.”

From downstairs, Dad’s voice thundered again. “MAX! I SAID NOW!”

“COMING!” Max hollered.
